Revealing the reason President Trump signed a bill to stop using “paper straws” because they are expensive and risky for your health!
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday announcing a “paper straw phase-out” policy.
In July last year, the administration of former President Joe Biden announced a policy to encourage people, government agencies and businesses to switch to biodegradable or reusable paper straws instead of single-use plastic straws.
But in signing an executive order Monday, Trump said paper straws are “unusable, contain chemicals that pose health risks, are more expensive to produce than plastic straws, and often require more than one straw.”
Trump also noted that paper straws often come wrapped in plastic, further undermining the argument that they are environmentally safe.
“This is an absurd situation. We are going back to plastic straws,” Trump said as he signed an executive order requiring government agencies to stop purchasing paper straws and ensuring that paper straws will no longer be available in government buildings.
Trump also ordered a national strategy to phase out paper straws nationwide within 45 days.
